Software Tools for Automation

Today, most production plants are supported by automation or  are driven by automatic control systems, providing high quality and reproducibility of the production process. In addition, automation components are used at laboratories or small systems such as calibration stands that require a higher flexibility than continuous running chemical, pharmaceutical or power plants.

Generic Device Type Manager for HART®-Field Devices–The Perfect Software for Maintenance of Plants

If Universal and Common Practice Commands of the HART® protocol are sufficient for commissioning, operation and maintenance of HART®field devices in a plant, any field device can be parameterized using the Generic HART® DTM.

This DTM contains parameterization, diagnosis, display of dynamic variables and data acquisition with archiving in csv-formatted text files or Microsoft ACCESS data bases. In addition, 5 calibration methods with a step by step guide are provided.

Together with PACTware, you are provided with an extremely cost-saving solution to get plant asset management support and an easy condition monitoring.

ICS software for maintenance used worldwide


ICS offers the best support for maintenance, personal user interface and documentation, and is available in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Tutorial videos are available on youtube.  For device manufacturers, the Generic HART®DTM can be ordered with your own Brand Label.

A Standard License unlocks the DTM for unlimited use on one PC.  The Professional License provides 5 calibration methods: sensor trim, zero trim, DAC trim, scaled DAC trim and loop test for use on one PC. The Site License permits the use of the Generic HART DTMs on all PCs at a company site.

Professional Data Analysis – Navigate With TrendAnalyzer3 Through the Torrent of Measured Data!


Today, the permanent recording of measured data from production processes is par for the course. The quantity of data to be recorded increases along with the complexity of the process, the production speed, and also when increased demands are placed on quality control. These factors allow deviations in defined functions or failure of plant components to be detected at an early point in time.

Potentials for energy savings can be recognized by controlling air conditioners in superstores or by recording power consumption of air compressors. Analyzing measured data using an extremely flexible software tool provides an indication of what changes will be successful in a system.

The following variants of Trend Analyzer are available:

Small Edition

for an easy documentation of measured values in a lab, at customer presentations, in workshops and anywhere an application created csv-formatted files of measured values. Multiple files can be concatenated by time stamp, all date and time formats can be converted using a wizard.

Standard Edition

for the documentation of extensive archives of measured data which e.g. are recorded by process control systems. This variant also allows to edit several data sources (databases, EXCEL spreadsheets and csv-formatted files) simultaneously.

Professional Edition

for the mathematical analysis of extensive archives of measurement data. Additional functions to the Standard Edition are that measured curves can be read from database queries and edited measured curves can be saved to ACCESS-databases and csv-formatted files.

PACTware® ProcessMonitor Add-in for Data Acquisition

ProcessMonitor Add-in is used for cyclical reading measured data from field devices, presentation of measured data in charts and archive them in text files or databases for a later documentation or analysis. An online configuration defines which device variables are to be read. That can be all parameters or measured values that are provided by the DTM of a device.


This PACTware® Add-in provides an extremly effordable solution for continuous data acquisition even on unattended work stations or during maintenance tasks.

After installation PACTware automatically adds ProcessMonitor Add-in to its list of add-ins. ProcessMonitor Add-in will be added to the PACTware menu View after loading and can then be displayed and used.


PACTware® ProcessMonitor Add-in for Data Acquisition…continued

The user interface of ProcessMonitor Add-in shows three areas:

  • a toolbar providing all tools for direct configuration of the curve window and definition of archiving
  • the very flexible curve window for display of running data curves during data acquisition
  • an information area where some attributes of scales and curves can be changed and current values are displayed

The ProcessMonitor Add-in is displayed in a non modal window in addition to all DTM windows. Therefore data acquisition and parameterization of devices can be executed in parallel. Data are continuously recorded even if the add-in window is minimized.

During data acquisition all recorded data are buffered in the curve window and can then be stored to an archive (csv-formatted text file or ACCESS database) for later documentation or analysis using e.g. TrendAnalyzer.

If measurement data is written to the selected archive in continuous mode, no data is lost in case PACTware is accidentally finished.


For configuration of device variables that will be read for data acquisition by ProcessMonitor Add-in required DTMs in the PACTware project are selected.

ProcessMonitor Add-in tries to read data from a selected HART or Profibus capable field device and provides all device variables that are available for data acquisition.

Pressing the OK or Apply key, all checked measured values are collected for the information area. If a y-scale of an already configured measured value uses the same unit as a newly selected value, the user is asked whether the same y-scale should be used. Thus groups of measured values are formed that are comparable which each other.
